Brule Shore Bioblitz
SUNNS members team up with the Clean Foundation to document the biodiversity evident on the Brule Shore Saltmarsh. The Clean Foundation and 25 volunteers conducted the survey on a portion of saltmarsh slated for restoration in the near future. Such restoration will mitigate the storm surges and higher water level associate with the Climate Crisis said Madeline Conacher of SuNNS. This is a positive project that will contribute to a sustainable future on the North Shore. Hannah Martin from the Milbrook First Nations offered a prayer and short smudging ceremony to open the event.
The Bioblitz will require either a cellphone or a digital camera. If you have a smartphone, please download the free iNaturalist app before the event. If you bring a digital camera, our team will be on hand to assist you in identifying and cataloging plants, animals, and insects that you find. Please dress for the weather and wear footwear appropriate for walking in a salt marsh, such as rubber boots. Make sure to bring a reusable water bottle with you. Snacks will be provided! Any scheduling changes will be announced on the evening of Monday, July 27, via Eventbrite and the Facebook event page.
