A Walk in the Woods

SuNNS Futures Committee sponsored a Walk in the Woods on Warwick Mountain with the goal of introducing citizens to the forests and the creeks and streams that flow into the French River. Futures Committee member Suse introduced and framed the walk during a circle of appreciation noting that the gathering was happening on unceded Mi'kmag territory. Greg Watson of North Nova led a group of approx. 18 people, including his young daughter, up and down through the woods of the former Cook property now part of the Nature Preserve. Greg's easy going manner and love for the woods inspired our group to follow him in the rain. He showed us examples of sustainable forestry practices that North Nova introduced, lead us bushwalking through the woods and drew our attention to several tributaries that feed into the French River Watershed (the only source of water for Tatamagouche).

Watch for future Walks in the Woods.

Greg mentioned a longer hike up Warwick Mt. to see the seven tributaries that are fed by the French River watershed. These are the tributaries that would be put at risk by gold mining exploration or development.
